Churches of Charles Vacation Bible School 2020
We pray your family is well in these unusual days! As we all prepare for our summer plans we expect that you, like us, are in the midst of many unknowns. Will you be able to vacation with the family? Will you be headed back to work? Will your child have child care?
As the VBS planning team, we too have been spending time in such questions including what will VBS look like this summer. After much prayerful discernment we finally have developed a plan for VBS that will engage our children, families, and bring the stories of scripture to life in the face of social distancing!
Virtual VBS Schedule
This year, our Churches of Charles VBS will extend over the ENTIRE month of July! Beginning on Monday, July 6, we will gather on Monday evenings (July 6, 13, 20, 27) from 6 pm – 8 pm for virtual VBS. Our counselors and teachers will teach the lessons of scripture in a fun way to our children online. Our theme for the summer will be Compassion Camp: Be Loved, Be Kind, Be You!
We will provide kits to each family to engage over the course of each week in activities–arts & crafts, science, etc.– that teach the week’s lesson! You may pick up the kits on one of four dates between June 30th and July 5th.
Final Day Music & Dance Production
We will still continue the tradition of an end of VBS production complete with music, dance, and sharing of our journey together (though it will be a virtual production)!
VBS Mission Plans
We will also use the month of July to participate in a number of mission opportunities that will benefit feeding programs around Baltimore.
VBS Registration and Donation
We are requesting a suggested donation of $25 per child this year for VBS, most of which will be donated to a feeding organization in Baltimore. Please register your child/children by Monday, June 15th.
When deciding what to do about VBS this year, we encourage you to consider “why” you have done VBS in the past. For us as leaders, our primary goals of VBS are to teach the stories of scripture, instill a foundation of faith, and create a shared community with our neighbors. Although we are not able to gather in the traditional way, we believe we can still achieve these goals and together we will continue our discipleship of serving as The Church at work in the world.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to any of our VBS leaders.
We surround you with love, prayers, and peace.
