Membership at Second Presbyterian
We invite all who trust and believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior and who have a desire to join with us in our ministry and fellowship to join us as a member.
Membership gatherings are held periodically (usually Spring and Fall), when a ‘critical mass’ of people have expressed interest in joining.
If interested in joining, please let either Rev. Tom Blair, Rev. Amy Carlson, or Rev. Jenn Difrancesco, or Joyce Zimmerman know, and we will be in touch with you directly. A personal time of meeting will then be arranged (usually over coffee or lunch) to begin an orientation of the life of our congregation and the Presbyterian Church (USA).
Our New Member Classes are times when you will hear from the pastors and officers of the church, make more personal connections, and get to know the opportunities that are available for you to get more involved here at Second. You will be welcomed into membership at that time and welcomed as a new member during one of our worship services, either at 9 or 11 AM.
You are invited to unite with Second Presbyterian in one of the following ways:
- Confession of Faith ~ First time membership in a church. If you have not been baptized, that will be done as part of your Confession of Faith
- Reaffirmation of Faith ~ Reconnecting with the church by renewing your membership (and you are not currently on the membership rolls of another church)
- Letter of Transfer ~ Transferring your membership from another Presbyterian Church (or some other protestant churches). We take care of requesting your membership transfer.
- Affiliate Membership ~ You are already a member of another Presbyterian Church (your home church), but you wish to temporarily join with SPC while you are in our community. This is generally an option for college or graduate students who wish to maintain their primary membership in a home church. You may participate fully in the life of the congregation, but you are not eligible to vote in congregational meetings or hold office.
