Immediately following the 10:30am service this Sunday, December 5th, we will journey together as a church community in our “Las Posadas,” Spanish for “The Inns”, pageant. Traveling around the church building, led by our children and youth, we will reenact the journey of Mary and Joseph by knocking on doors seeking shelter. At each Posada, or Inn, Mary and Joseph ask for shelter and at each Posada they are refused until finally the Holy Family is recognized, and they and their friends are welcomed in with celebration.
Las Posadas can help us retell the story of our own sojourns to new life. It can remind us of those who continue to cross geographic borders, psychological barriers, social boundaries, and spiritual barriers in search of newness of life, justice, and safety. But by God’s incarnational grace, we are welcomed, and in turn, we are called to welcome others who may knock at our “doors.”
